Windows 2000

Hi,

Does anybody know what causes the following sound problem?

I have a Windows 2000 machine complete with most updates and patches including Service Pack 3. The machine is on a small network.

The problem is when I play MP3's using Winamp or Media player. If I play a tune from boot up everything is OK but if I try to play a tune and browse the web with any browser for example, as you scroll up and down the web page the sound breaks up and "slows" down. The same happens if you open Windows Explorer and scroll up and down the file list.

Whilst this is happening you can see the CPU usage in Task Manager>Performance hitting 80% +. Incidentally, when the sound is OK this value is around 2-3%!.

I am totally at a loss as to what this problem is and it is driving me nuts!

Graham. :(

Win 2K is very processor hungry to start with, so I would say you need a bigger processor + possibly more memory

Thanks for the reply. I have over 300M of memory but it seems strange it works OK until you start browsing!
